12/22/2023 0 Comments Pearl steven universe![]() Grief is not convenient and it can be blinding. Then, she and everyone else lost Rose all together. She fell in love with her and eventually lost her love. She was a slave on Homeworld and Rose helped her realize she deserved freedom. Every character on this show is flawed and has made mistakes, just like real people. Okay, but you're ignoring all of the times that Pearl has gone out of her way to protect and love Steven, as well as the times she's been loyal to her friends. TL DR: Pearl's actions hurts her friends, especially Steven. I understand she has some issues and that her life has not been as easy as most gems but it is inexcusable to vent all her frustrations on her peers and especially on Steven. In conclusion, Pearl is a complete mess and she attracts the people around her into it. Once again, Pearl's selfish motives endanger and hurt the people around her. Not only did she upset and use Garnet, she compromised Earth's safety by distracting the crew from the main mission of finding Peridot. The most despicable thing she has done is manipulate Garnet into fusing with her. Steven is a tough kid but he most certainly does not need this bashing. Once again, Steven is hurt due to Pearl's actions. Lastly, in this song she says "now I've got to be there for her son", comparing taking care of Steven to the life of a sad sad widow. Once again, we see how Pearl wants Rose exclusively to her and feels threatened by the business and relationships she has with other people. She uses phrases like "she chose you" and "I never thought I'd lose". She sees Greg as a competition for Rose's love. Now I really love this song musically, however, if you analyse the lyrics, it is extremely selfish in nature. In "Mr.Greg", she sang one of the show's most popular songs "It's over, Isn't it". It might not be her intentions to hurt Steven's feelings but she sure is doing a good job at it. That is something Jasper would do to Steven to intimidate him. After Steven corrected her, she lashed out at him and said "Why won't you let me do this for you Rose". She was instructing Connie to think less of herself and to devout herself entirely to Steven. Next, in "Sworn to the Sword", you see Pearl brainwashing Connie into filling the role she had for Rose, for Steven. Not to mention he almost died trying to follow her and she did nothing to help. Her lashing out probably hurt the gem's feelings but more importantly, it increased the guilt Steven feels over his mom's disappearance. She sees her relationship with Rose as strictly better than the others rather than just different. Second, in the episode "Rose's Scabbard", you see Pearl lashing out at everyone and belittle their relationship with Rose. And now that we can look at it with hindsight, if she would have actually gotten to Homeworld with Steven there would have been even greater issues. The episode "Space Race" shows how tunneled she is on the idea of going back to Homeworld to live a better life. Her best years were the ones spent with Rose and the next best thing after that is her life in Homeworld. The first time I started questioning Pearl's actions was when she almost killed Steven trying to get to Homeworld in "Space Race." In this episode, it is evident that Pearl would much rather live in past eras than where she is now. ![]() There are multiple reasons for that but my main premise is the following: Her perception of her relationship with Rose is unhealthy and her dwelling over that lost relationship causes damage to the people around her. So, unlike the majority of this fandom, the more this series goes on, the less sympathy I have for Pearl.
